December 2009 Facebook girl, 14, lured into drunken sex at party A MAN who took advantage of a drunken 14-year-old has been jailed for seven months for having sex with an under-age girl. Garrett Moon, 22, who admitted having unlawful sex with the girl, was also made the subject of a 17-month extended sentence licence. The court heard that he met the girl through social networking website Facebook two weeks before the offence, which was committed on 16 August. The girl had told him she was 14 and she knew his age, too. Moon, of St Julian’s House, St Peter Port, had combined alcohol with prescription drugs on the night of the offence and was, in his own words, ‘wrecked’. Advocate Clare Tee said her client had no similar previous convictions and argued that the protection of the public would be best served by a lengthy period of supervision. She said a correct balance of punishment and protection could be struck with a suspended sentence supervision order. Judge Philip Robey noted that Moon had been to prison three times before, but had no previous convictions for sexual offences. Judge Robey stressed that he was sentencing on the basis of it having been a consensual act. But he said that the defendant ‘took advantage of her drunken state’ and added that the fact Moon was ‘wrecked’ did not help. Judge Robey said imprisonment was the only appropriate sentence. He placed him on an extended sentence licence so that he would be under supervision on his release.
