May 2009 Deganwy doctor sexually assaulted teenager A DISGRACED ex-doctor turned holistic therapist was jailed yesterday after a court heard how he lured a teenage girl into his home for a job interview as a masseur then sexually assaulted her. Robert Arwel Jones, 45, stripped naked and got her to massage him all over, then told her to take her top off and he massaged her breasts. Mold Crown Court heard yesterday that former GP Jones was struck off for child porn offences in 1999. In 1999 he was jailed at Chester Crown Court for four months after he admitted making indecent photographs of children. He later opened up a natural health clinic in Chester, The Better Health Clinic, where he did not need to be registered. That business was in substantial debt. Jones placed an advert in a Llandudno Jobcentre saying he was planning to open up a massage business. A 17-year-old beauty therapy student applied for the job and was asked to go for an interview at his home in Albert Drive, Deganwy, one January lunchtime. After some general questions downstairs, the interview continued in his bedroom while his wife and two children were out, prosecutor Des Parry said. He stripped off – exposing himself – and got her to massage his back initially, but then he turned over and got her to massage down the rest of his body. He then told the girl to lie on the bed, opened her bra and massaged her breasts, later telling police he wanted to show her the direction of the lymph glands. Jones told police that he had filmed the whole thing by accident while charging his video camera in the bedroom – but police had not found any actual film. A probation officer branded Jones a dangerous man. Jones, who had previous convictions for exposing himself and downloading child porn, was jailed for 18 months and was ordered to register with the police as a sex offender for life after he admitted sex assault and causing the young girl to engage in sexual activity. He was banned from ever working with anyone aged under 18 and an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order was made. Judge Peter Heywood said the young girl was immature, wanted to further her career and wanted the job. She was expecting a proper job interview but the judge said he was satisfied that he had lured her there to satisfy his own sexual gratification. “Clearly, you get some sort of thrill from appearing naked in front of young females,” the judge told him. It had a significant impact upon her – it had affected her confidence, she had flashbacks and she had found it difficult to continue with her college work. The court heard Jones’s wife, a practice nurse at a doctor’s surgery in Colwyn Bay, was standing by her husband. Huw Edwards, defending, said his client’s guilty pleas had spared the girl the traumatic ordeal of giving evidence. “This is a man of considerable intelligence who achieved considerable qualifications as a fully qualified medical practitioner. But he has thrown it all away because of his predilection. There will never be a time when the GMC will allow him to practise again,” said Mr Edwards. The court heard how he had previous convictions of a sexual nature in 1990, 1993 and 1999 and was then struck off as a GP. Case of Robert Jones, February 1999 A judge condemned the increasing availability of Internet pornography in February 1999 as he jailed a doctor for creating a private gallery of indecent pictures. Robert Jones, 34, the head of an alternative therapy centre at Colwyn Bay, North Wales, downloaded 5,000 pornographic images on to his computer. In two cases, both involving children, he superimposed his own naked form on to the picture. Jones, formerly of Deganwy, near Llandudno, admitted possessing and making indecent pseudo-photographs of children. He was jailed for four months and told that his name would be listed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the next seven years. Recorder Peter Hughes, sitting at Chester Crown court, told Jones: “If there were not people like you prepared to download material of this nature it would not appear on the Internet, and innocent children who have been victims of exploitation and abuse in the most depraved manner would be better protected.” The judge said that the court could not ignore the fact that Jones had two previous convictions for indecent exposure, both involving teenagers.
