RHYS STREET FROM COLCHESTER SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR NAUSEATING RAPE OF UNWELL WOMAN
In a case that has shocked the local community of Colchester, Rhys Street, aged 28, was sentenced to eight years in prison following his conviction for a heinous sexual assault that took place in 2016.The incident came to light after the victim, a woman in her twenties, decided to pursue legal action two years later, leading to a thorough court investigation.
On Monday, November 18, at Chelmsford Crown Court, Street was found guilty of multiple charges, including rape, sexual assault, and two counts of assault by penetration.
The court heard that Street had initially claimed innocence, denying all allegations.
However, the evidence presented was compelling enough to secure a conviction.
The court was told that Street had pretended to care for the woman after she fell seriously unwell, exploiting her vulnerable state to commit the assault.
His Honour Judge Turner delivered a stern judgment, condemning Street’s actions as inexcusable.
The judge stated, "You took shameful disadvantage of this girl.
More importantly, you took advantage when she was plainly unwell, you did so nauseatingly under the impression of looking after her." Judge Turner emphasized the gravity of the offence, describing rape as a "grave offence" and one of the most distressing forms of assault.
He highlighted the long-lasting psychological damage such crimes can inflict, noting that victims often carry the emotional scars for many years.
As part of his sentencing, Street was handed an eight-year prison term.
Additionally, he was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from potential future harm.
