A 60-year-old man from Colchester, named David Caney, was caught by a group of paedophile hunters who recorded his confrontation at his home and shared the footage on Facebook.
Prior to this, he had engaged in online conversations with decoys posing as young girls aged ten and twelve, during which he requested nude images and referred to one as a “sexy devil.” Caney provided a false age and discussed plans to take the girl he believed to be ten shopping at Lakeside, later telling her she was too young to travel alone.
Authorities discovered indecent images of children aged 11 to 16 on his devices, including three classified as category B and one as category C.
He confessed to attempting to communicate sexually with a child and to possessing indecent images.
He was given a community order for two years, required to complete 160 hours of unpaid work, and issued a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for five years.
The court acknowledged that his behavior was driven by loneliness and noted that the exposure by the hunter group led to him losing his long-term job.
