November 2008 Baby porn man faces prison term A PORT Talbot man has been jailed for serious offences of child pornography — some involving babies. It is the second time Raymond Anthony Evans has been sent down for obtaining indecent images of children from the internet. Evans, aged 42, of Brook Street, was given a 21-month sentence at Swansea Crown Court for offences involving almost 500 child porn pictures. He received a similar sentence four years ago for downloading and saving such material. Mark Spackman, prosecuting, said Evans was arrested after detectives armed with a search warrant went to his home on the morning of October 5 last year. Almost 500 indecent images of children were recovered when the defendant’s computer equipment was examined by experts. Some of the children pictured were babies, the court heard. Evans claimed that he had been set up and that someone must have hacked into his computer. But after initially pleading not guilty he admitted 20 charges of making indecent photographs of children. Judge Michael Burr was told that Evans had been jailed for 21 months in 2004 for making, possessing and distributing such images. On that occasion, the court heard, the defendant had been released on bail after being questioned by the police. He had then used a friend’s computer equipment to continue to access child porn. Evans’s barrister, Janet Gedrych, said that shortly before his arrest 13 months ago, he had succumbed to the temptation to browse the internet for child pornography. “He has no intention of putting himself in this position ever again,” said Miss Gedrych. Sentencing, Judge Burr said Evans had committed very serious offences and a prison term was unavoidable. “Each of these photographs represents real abuse in relation to a real child,” he told Evans. “You succumbed yet again to the temptation of accessing these images for the purpose of your own indulgence.” The conviction in 2004 was an aggravating factor in the case, said the judge. He told Evans: “You obviously did not learn the lessons you should have learned on that occasion. “It would behove you to seek help where you are able to receive it.” Judge Burr disqualified Evans from ever working with children and directed that his name should remain on the register of sex offenders until the year 2018.
