CLIVE DAVIES OF MUMBLES AND PORT TALBOT SENTENCED FOR PREDATORY SEXUAL ABUSE OF GIRLS AS YOUNG AS 13

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Mumbles and Port Talbot, Clive Gordon Davies, a 74-year-old newsagent, was found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over a decade. The crimes involved the sexual exploitation and abuse of young girls, some as young as 13 years old, during the 1970s and 1980s.

Davies, who resided on Moorland Avenue in Newton near Mumbles, used manipulative tactics to control his victims. He would often supply alcohol to underage girls, making them more vulnerable to his advances. In addition to physical abuse, he took indecent photographs of some of the girls, threatening to show these images to others if they disclosed the abuse. His actions were characterized by a systematic pattern of exploitation, with some victims enduring abuse for as long as three years.

It was not until 2015 that the victims, who had kept silent for many years, decided to come forward and report the abuse to the authorities. This led to a police investigation that uncovered the extent of Davies’s misconduct. During the court proceedings, Davies pleaded guilty to 31 sexual offenses involving girls aged between 13 and 15.

The court heard that Davies’s abuse was both sustained and methodical, with some victims subjected to ongoing exploitation over several years. The judge, Geraint Walters, described Davies’s conduct as “truly disturbing” and labeled him a “serial abuser of young girls.”

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Walters condemned Davies’s actions, stating, “Your conduct was nothing short of pure wickedness. You were a predatory paedophile who preyed on young girls — you deprived them of their childhoods.” The judge sentenced Davies to 15 years in prison, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the profound impact on his victims.

This case has brought to light the dark underbelly of abuse that can occur within seemingly ordinary community settings, and it underscores the importance of vigilance and justice for victims of such heinous acts.
