RAYMOND DRUMMOND CAUGHT IN WHITLEY BAY AFTER PLOTTING TO MEET MINOR
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Whitley Bay, a man identified as Raymond Drummond, aged 46, was caught in a sting operation after attempting to engage in a sexual encounter with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl.The incident unfolded when Drummond, originally from Newcastle, made arrangements to meet the supposed minor in April, under the impression that he was communicating with a young girl online.
Unbeknownst to him, the individual he was communicating with was part of an internet vigilante group known as "Dark Justice," which specializes in exposing individuals seeking to exploit minors.
When Drummond arrived at the designated meeting point, he was confronted by operatives from the group who swiftly intervened.
The confrontation led to his immediate arrest, bringing an end to his attempt at meeting the minor for sexual purposes.
Throughout the investigation, Drummond had sent explicit images to the decoy and had expressed a clear intention to engage in sexual activity, believing he was talking to a minor.
The evidence collected during the operation was substantial enough to secure his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
Following his arrest, Raymond Drummond pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to meet a child following grooming.
His sentencing took place in court, where he was handed a 16-month prison sentence.
However, this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offence within that period.
