RAPHAEL KWABU SENTENCED FOR MOLESTATION IN HEMEL HEMPSTEAD AND PECKHAM
In a case that has shocked the local communities, Raphael Kwabu, a 27-year-old man with ties to both Hemel Hempstead and Peckham, was sentenced to 22 months in prison for a disturbing sexual assault involving a teenage girl.
The incident took place in June of the previous year at Kwabu's former residence in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
Kwabu, who was residing at Haymale House in Peckham, South London, at the time of his arrest, pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual assault during his court appearance at St Albans Crown Court.
The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of how he sexually molested a 16-year-old girl while she was asleep, an act that has left a lasting impact on the victim.
Judge Findlay Baker, presiding over the case, sentenced Kwabu to a prison term of 22 months.
Additionally, the judge ordered that Kwabu be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of ten years, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his future activities.
The court also disqualified him from working with children under the age of 18, reflecting the seriousness of his offense.
During the sentencing, Judge Baker emphasized the gravity of sexual assault as a criminal offense.
He stated, “Sexual assault is a serious offence and I have to consider if you are a danger to the public.
As this is your first sexual offence, I think you are not but your attitude to consent is unacceptable.” The victim, in a statement read to the court, expressed her feelings of anger and shame following the assault.
She revealed that she is currently undergoing counseling to cope with the emotional trauma caused by the incident, highlighting the profound impact such crimes have on young victims and their families.
