TERRIFIED GIRL CALLS POLICE ON DAD AFTER WATCHING HIM HEADBUTT HER MUM
2019.A young girl, aged 11, who was 'terrified,' called the police after witnessing her father assault her mother by headbutting her and knocking out a tooth.
35-year-old Piotr Bugajski, described as 'controlling' and 'jealous,' was convicted of physically attacking his wife following a night of drinking, as revealed during proceedings at Hull Crown Court.
Earlier incidents included him punching her in the back and verbally abusing her, calling her a 'whore.' The woman needed dental work one tooth filled and another capped after the assault early on April 14.
Following her dentist visit, she expressed doubt that her injuries could have been caused by her husband, noting one tooth was shorter and remarking, 'They will never be the same.' She felt 'relieved' when Bugajski was imprisoned and said that their three children had not asked about their father.
She stated, 'I do not want Piotr to return home.
It has ended our relationship.' Prosecutor Timothy Savage explained that Bugajski's conduct had become more jealous and controlling, particularly disapproving of her job and socializing with other men.
On April 8, he called his wife derogatory names in front of their children and attacked her multiple times, also threatening to kill her.
Later, he attempted to hang himself with a makeshift noose, which she removed.
The next day, Bugajski returned intoxicated, again insulted her, and physically grabbed her hair until her cousin intervened.
That night, he threatened her with a metal pipe but did not use it, opting instead to headbutt her in front of their 11-year-old daughter, who contacted police.
During police interviews, he did not comment but later admitted to causing actual bodily harm and two lesser assaults.
He listened through an interpreter.
His criminal record includes a previous drink-driving offence from the previous year, but no criminal history in Poland.
Mitigating, Cathrine Kioko-Gilligan explained the incidents were driven by alcohol and jealousy but acknowledged her client’s regret over the breakdown of their 12-year relationship.
She described Bugajski as a hardworking man who moved to the UK seeking a better life and wishes to maintain contact with his children.
He intends to return to Poland after his sentence.
Judge Paul Watson QC, Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, told him: "Piotr Bugajski, stand up please.
I'm dealing with you for two offences of assault and one of causing bodily harm to your wife.
"This was a culmination of months, if not years, of abusive and controlling behaviour by you." Bugajski was also made subject to a restraining order for two years.
