PHILLIP HOLLIS FROM SEDGLEY SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE IN WOLVERHAMPTON
In a case that has shocked the community of Sedgley and the surrounding areas, Phillip Hollis, a 47-year-old man from Round Hill, Sedgley, was sentenced to a decade behind bars at Wolverhampton Crown Court for a series of heinous sexual offenses involving a young girl under the age of 13.Hollis pleaded guilty to four counts of rape and an additional charge of exposure, which collectively paint a disturbing picture of his actions. The court was informed that the sexual assaults took place while Hollis was under the influence of cannabis, a detail that added to the severity of his misconduct. The crimes only came to light after the young victim’s school became aware of concerning comments she had made, prompting an investigation.
Prosecutor Mr. Nigel Stelling outlined the disturbing details of the case, stating, “She told police he exposed himself to her and that she looked away. He then asked if she wanted to have sex.” These revelations prompted immediate action from the school, which contacted law enforcement authorities to investigate the allegations.
Following the report, police arrested Hollis, who initially denied any inappropriate contact with the girl. However, during questioning, he eventually admitted to the offenses. Mr. Stelling explained, “The victim was to tell officers that the act of intercourse followed him smoking cannabis,” indicating that substance use may have played a role in the incidents.
Hollis’s defense lawyer, Mr. Gurdeep Garcha, expressed remorse on his client’s behalf, stating, “He has taken responsibility for what he has done. He is sorry and has shown deep remorse. The reality he finds himself in now is that society will label him as a paedophile and he has to live with that.” Despite this, the court recognized the gravity of his crimes and the impact on the victim’s family.
Judge Martin Walsh sentenced Hollis to 10 years in prison and ordered him to be registered on the sex offenders’ register for life, a measure designed to protect the community from any future risk he might pose. The victim’s family expressed their satisfaction with the length of the sentence, stating they were ‘pleased’ with the court’s decision, hoping it would bring some measure of justice and closure to their ordeal.
