Sedgley Sexual Abuser

January 2010 Sex attacker gets 5 years A 25-YEAR-old Sedgley man who carried out a string of sex attacks on an abducted schoolgirl after introducing her to heroin and cannabis has been jailed for five years. David Harrison, of Brownswall Road, abducted the 13 year-old girl after being barred from contacting her by a court order. The teenager was eventually picked up by police in a crack den after officers had been alerted by other drug users who were concerned about her age. Speaking at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Judge Michael Dudley told Harrison that his drug taking lifestyle had probably seemed exciting to the girl and it was clear a sexual relationship had followed. He said he accepted Harrison felt they had a “genuine” relationship but she had been far too young, adding: “Youngsters like this need protecting from themselves.” The judge said Harrison had been served with a notice forbidding any contact with the girl but he had ignored it and carried out the abduction. Harrison admitted abduction, supplying heroin and cannabis, sexual activity with a child and indecent assault and he was further told he must register as a sex offender for 10 years. Heidi Kubik, prosecuting, said it was the first time the girl had mixed with people who took drugs and it was only a matter of time before she too began to use heroin and cannabis. The girl’s parents were “distraught and bewildered” when they learned about her activities, which included going out shoplifting with Harrison so they could get money to buy drugs. Miss Kubik said Harrison carried out sex attacks while the girl was under the influence of drugs but after returning home, she went missing again and was found two weeks later with the defendant at a flat in Telford. Harrison was then served with the court order but the girl once again left home to be with him, later being found in the crack house. Darron Whitehead, defending, said everything that took place between Harrison and the girl had been consensual, adding: “This is not a case where he sought out this girl to have his wicked way.” He told the court the pair had a genuine relationship despite the difference in their ages and there was no bullying or persuasion. In court,Harrison apologised to the girl’s family for his actions and said: “I want to say how sorry I am for all that I have put them through.” He was further told by the judge he must be the subject of a 10-year sexual offenders protection order, which bars him from all future contact with the girl.
