April 2016 Oldbury pensioner downloaded child sexual abuse images AN elderly Oldbury widower downloaded sickening indecent images of children as young as six, a court heard. When police raided the home of seventy-one-year-old Philip Cooper, they also found images of extreme pornography involving animals. Simon Rippon, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court police had acted on information received and seized the pensioner’s computer. They discovered the father of two had downloaded a number of still images and movies including 13 in the worst category. Cooper, of Barston Road, admitted making indecent images of children and also possessing extreme pornography. He was placed on supervision with a condition he attends the sex offenders programme, told he must register as a sex offender for five years and ordered to pay £340 costs. Judge James Burbidge QC described the images as “nasty and horrible” and told him it was sad to see a man his age before a court for the first time. He added, “By looking at these images it tends to create a market for them.” The judge said there was no doubt he led a “lonely and isolated life” but he had disgraced his good name.
