SHZHAB KHAN'S BRUTAL LIFT ATTACK IN OLDBURY LEADS TO PRISON AND BAN ON ANIMALS

In a disturbing incident that took place in Oldbury, Shahzeeb Shazad Khan, born on November 7, 1995, was convicted for a violent assault on his pet dog inside an apartment building lift. The incident, captured on CCTV footage, revealed a shocking display of cruelty that ultimately resulted in Khan’s imprisonment and a lifetime ban from owning animals.

On December 10, 2019, West Midlands Police contacted the RSPCA after receiving footage from security cameras installed within the lift of an Oldbury apartment complex. The footage showed Khan entering the lift with a young dog, described as a large brindle-colored Presa Canario named Rico. The dog appeared visibly nervous, cowering in the corner of the lift, clearly distressed by the presence of Khan.

Suddenly, the footage depicted Khan launching a violent attack on Rico, kicking and stamping on the dog’s head twice. The scene was particularly distressing, as a puddle of urine was visible on the floor of the lift, indicating the dog’s extreme fear and anxiety. The footage captured the moment Rico, overwhelmed and frightened, wet himself during the assault.

Following the attack, Khan attached a lead to Rico’s harness and yanked at him to move him across the lift. The dog, clearly frightened, scurried towards the doors and continued to cower on the ground as the lift doors opened. As the doors parted, Rico nervously exited the lift, and the footage ended with the dog disappearing from view.

Rico was subsequently seized by the West Midlands Police and taken to a veterinary clinic for a thorough examination. Fortunately, vets found no physical injuries on the dog, but they reviewed the CCTV footage and confirmed that the attack was aggressive. They described Khan’s actions as a “barbaric use of force,” highlighting the severity of the cruelty inflicted upon Rico.

Shahzeeb Khan pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to eight weeks in prison. Additionally, he received a victim surcharge of £123 and was disqualified from owning any animals for life. The court also ordered Rico to be removed from Khan’s ownership, allowing the RSPCA to find him a new, loving home.

Inspector Claire Davey, who led the investigation, expressed relief that Rico was now safe and in the care of the RSPCA. She stated, “After spending a year in our care, Rico can now find a wonderful new home. All of the staff who have been taking care of him are so thrilled that this Christmas is looking so much brighter for this lovely lad.”

It was also noted that Shahzeeb Khan has connections to Wolverhampton, Bilston, West Bromwich, and Smethwick, areas in the West Midlands. His case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of animal welfare and the consequences of cruelty, with authorities emphasizing their commitment to protecting vulnerable animals from such violent acts.
