PETER STAFFORD FROM HUDDERSFIELD AND LOCKWOOD JAILED FOR VILE SEX CRIMES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS

In May 2013, a disturbing case unfolded involving Peter Stafford, a man from Huddersfield and Lockwood, who was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against vulnerable young girls. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of predatory behavior that left many victims traumatized and the community shaken.

Judge Rodney Jameson QC delivered a stern condemnation of Stafford-Simpson’s actions, emphasizing the emotional toll inflicted on the victims. One of the most heartbreaking moments during the trial was witnessing a young woman, now grown, struggle profoundly as she attempted to relive her traumatic experiences. The judge described her ordeal as being turned into a virtual “child prostitute” by Stafford-Simpson, highlighting the severity and depravity of his crimes.

Stafford-Simpson, aged 48 at the time, was found guilty of 18 sexual offenses spanning from 2006 to 2011. These included engaging in sexual acts with teenage girls, causing them to participate in sexual activities, and other related offenses. The court heard that he had lured young girls with promises of money and alcohol, only to exploit their trust and vulnerability for his own gratification. Disturbingly, he also requested that some of the victims urinate into jars and even into his mouth, acts that underscored the grotesque nature of his misconduct.

Despite the overwhelming evidence, Stafford-Simpson maintained his innocence throughout the trial, claiming that he was a victim of mistaken identity. He insisted he had never met any of the six girls who testified against him. However, the judge was unequivocal in his judgment, stating, “These were despicable crimes. You were throughout a mature man and they involved seven different victims, six of whom were children. They were crimes carried out with breathtaking selfishness and an utter lack of scruples.” The judge further criticized Stafford-Simpson’s denial, suggesting that his claims of innocence were either dishonest or indicative of complete denial of his actions.

Prosecutor Rob Miers highlighted during the trial that one of the victims, a girl who became infatuated with Stafford-Simpson, had engaged in sexual activity with him when she was only 15 years old. The case also involved allegations of Stafford-Simpson’s inappropriate behavior in the presence of minors and exposure, adding to the gravity of the charges.

Earlier in the legal process, Stafford-Simpson was cleared of three counts of raping a 15-year-old girl, but the jury found him guilty on multiple other counts. The verdict was delivered after nearly three weeks of intense courtroom proceedings, during which Stafford-Simpson was remanded into custody pending sentencing.

In February 2013, Stafford-Simpson’s trial also became a platform for him to claim that he was a victim of racial bias. He alleged that the police had conspired against him because of his race, asserting that he was targeted because he is black. During the trial at Leeds Crown Court, he accused law enforcement of bullying witnesses and manipulating evidence, including text messages and phone calls linking him to the victims. Stafford-Simpson argued that the police had falsely implicated him, and he suggested that many of the convictions involved individuals of Asian or black descent, which he believed was indicative of racial discrimination.

Throughout the proceedings, Stafford-Simpson maintained that he was innocent and that much of the evidence was fabricated. He also claimed to have been subjected to police harassment, including unwarranted stops and searches on suspicion of drugs and burglary. Despite his assertions, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him, leading to his imprisonment and a stark reminder of the serious consequences of such vile crimes.
