SCARBOROUGH MAN PETER MEAKIN ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING YOUNG GIRLS
In April 2021, a man from Scarborough named Peter Meakin was involved in a disturbing case of sexual misconduct involving young girls.Despite the gravity of his actions, Meakin was ultimately spared from serving time in prison, as a judge decided to suspend his sentence.
During the proceedings at York Crown Court, it was revealed that Meakin, aged 53, had committed serious offences that deeply affected the victims.
The court heard that he had sexually assaulted a young girl and had also sent inappropriate and suggestive text messages to another girl, attempting to seduce her.
The impact of these crimes on the victims was described as significant, with the court emphasizing the emotional and psychological toll they endured.
Prosecutor Andrew Semple detailed the nature of the messages exchanged.
He explained that Meakin had sent flirtatious and sexually suggestive texts to one of the girls, trying to initiate a sexual relationship.
In one message, Meakin expressed hope that the girl was not watching
