January 2012 Wife reported man over child pornography A FORMER Navy man whose wife reported him to police when she found child pornography on his laptop has narrowly escaped jail. York Crown Court heard David Lightfoot, from Scarborough, who used to work for the Prison Service, even used an internet forum to pose as a woman with two fictional daughters who he was offering up for sexual abuse. He was caught when his wife of three years decided to use his computer and found a file marked adult, while he was away visiting his parents. His partner, who was aware her 58-year-old husband had used the computer on occasion to access adult porn, then opened the file to to discover 30 thumbnail images of child pornography, the court heard. Following the discovery on August 5, 2010, his wife immediately phoned Lightfoot and confronted him about the content on his computer. The court heard she then informed the police, and when she rang Lightfoot back to tell him about the situation he began to make more excuses and threatened suicide. Forensic examination uncovered over 3,100 images including some rated Level 5, the most extreme rating. The court heard Lightfoot served seven years in the Navy after joining as a teenager and then 14 years in the Prison Service before ill health meant he had to leave. Lightfoot was given a six-month sentence suspended for two years and was also made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order. Along with that he will have to notify police if he changes address in the next seven years and attend a course for sexual offenders.
