PETER BROOK FROM KINGWOOD AND NEWBURY SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE IN CARE HOMES

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the local communities of Kingswood, Newbury, and Birmingham, a former care worker named Peter Brook has been sentenced to eight years in prison after admitting to committing ten sexual assaults against young boys. The disturbing revelations emerged during a court hearing at Birmingham Crown Court, where it was detailed that Brook, aged 55, of Redfield Court, Newbury, Berkshire, had preyed on vulnerable children across multiple care facilities during the 1970s and 1980s.

Judge Laurence Marshall, presiding over the case, expressed profound disappointment and condemnation of Brook’s actions. He emphasized that the young boys, who deserved nurturing and protection, instead suffered at the hands of someone entrusted with their care. The judge remarked, “What care they got was of a despicable nature in a culture of perversion,” highlighting the betrayal of trust that had occurred.

Initially, Brook had denied all charges but later changed his plea during the proceedings. He admitted to two counts of buggery, seven counts of indecent assault, and one act of gross indecency. The court heard that the abuse took place at three different institutions: Tennal Assessment Centre in Harborne, Birmingham; Kingswood School in Kingswood, Bristol; and Troy House School in Monmouth, Wales.

Prosecutor Rachel Brand QC outlined the manipulative tactics employed by Brook, revealing that he had befriended the boys, offering them cigarettes and money as a means to gain their trust before subjecting them to sexual assault. The victims, aged between 12 and 15 years old at the time, had not spoken out about their experiences until they were contacted by law enforcement authorities.

At the time of his arrest in February this year, Brook was working as a security guard. It was noted that he had not been involved with children professionally since leaving Troy House School twelve years prior. Detective Inspector Mark Salt from West Midlands Police commented on the case, stating, “The sentence is a fair reflection of the horrendous crimes this man has perpetrated on what were young children in the care sector. During this case and others, it is clear that there was a disturbing pattern of individuals abusing young children in a sexual manner.”
