PEDRO PASCOA SHOCKS CREWE WITH ORAL RAPE OF 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the town of Crewe, Pedro Pascoa, a 22-year-old man originally from East Timor, has been convicted of a serious sexual offence involving a young girl with learning difficulties. Pascoa, who had recently moved to Crewe to start a new chapter in his life, was sentenced last week at Chester Crown Court to serve two years in prison, followed by two years of community rehabilitation. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was prohibited from working with children in any capacity. The court proceedings revealed that although Pascoa was charged with a single count of oral rape, evidence indicated that he had engaged in a sexual relationship with the girl for approximately three months. The victim, a 12-year-old girl with moderate learning difficulties, was reportedly manipulated into performing a sexual act on Pascoa, an act that he did not resist or stop.
The case came to light after a teacher’s assistant at the girl’s school was informed in September 2004 that the victim was involved in sexual activity with her boyfriend. This revelation prompted a police investigation, which uncovered troubling details about the girl’s sexual history and her repeated fears of pregnancy.
Prosecutor Prem Jesudason explained to the court that the girl had initiated her relationship with Pascoa and had persistently asked him for sex. According to witnesses, the girl’s friend stated that she had started dating Pascoa around February 2004, roughly six months prior to the investigation. The friend recounted accompanying the girl to Pascoa’s residence and witnessing several sexual acts over a three-month period. She also observed the girl removing her clothes in front of Pascoa and lying on top of him, both clothed and unclothed, during these encounters.
Despite Pascoa’s attempts to halt the girl’s advances, she continued to pursue him for sexual activity. Pascoa reportedly told her to wait until she was 16, but he did not prevent her from engaging in the acts. Defense attorney Anna Price acknowledged Pascoa’s guilty plea, emphasizing that the case was both daunting and shocking for him. She argued that Pascoa was unaware he was committing an offence, although he was aware of the girl’s age. Price highlighted that the girl was the one who initiated the relationship, and that she was sexually experienced at the time of the offence. She also noted that there was no evidence to suggest Pascoa was predatory, as the relationship developed from her initial contact.
Judge Nicholas Woodward addressed Pascoa directly during sentencing, condemning his conduct as disgraceful. He clarified that the offence was a single act of oral rape, with no force or coercion involved, and that Pascoa did not instigate the act. However, the judge emphasized that as an adult, Pascoa had a duty to protect the young girl, a duty he failed to uphold. The judge stated, “Children often have to be protected, even from themselves, and you took advantage of her in a most disgraceful way.” The court’s verdict underscores the gravity of the offence and the breach of trust involved in this disturbing case, which has left the community of Crewe deeply unsettled.
