March 2011 Fair worker, 22, abused a girl of 13 A 22-year-old fairground worker has been jailed for three years after he plied a teenage girl with alcohol and had under-age sex with her. Paul Watson was said to have given free rides to the 13-year-old when she visited a fair in Todmorden last year and later arranged to meet her via Facebook. Bradford Crown Court heard Watson took the complainant, who was accompanied by a younger girl, to a house and after his own girlfriend left he gave the teenager alcohol. Prosecutor Andrew Kershaw said the girl, who cannot be identified, described being dizzy, sick and paralytic. Watson carried her upstairs to a bedroom and had sex with her. “He told her repeatedly that he loved her and it wouldn’t hurt,” said Mr Kershaw. The complainant was “staggering to stand up” when she returned home and was prescribed the morning after pill. Last month however Watson, who has been living at an address in North Wales, pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual activity with a child. Judge Scott Wolstenholme said there was a considerable disparity in age between Watson and the complainant and he had taken advantage of the youngster for his own sexual gratification after plying her with drink. The judge said Watson had shown no remorse or empathy for his victim and she had suffered considerable emotional upset as a result of his conduct. “She was a vulnerable young woman. She had no previous experience of sexual intercourse,’’ the judge told Watson. “You just took advantage of her and used her for your own selfish purposes.” Watson was also made the subject of a indefinite sexual offences prevention order which prohibits any unsupervised contact with children under 16. Following his release from prison, Watson will also have to register as a sex offender with the police for the rest of his life.
