PAUL TAYLOR CONVICTED OF MURDER IN PETERBOROUGH AFTER OVER 30 YEARS

Former builder Paul Taylor, aged 60, was found guilty yesterday of the murder of Sally McGrath from Peterborough, ending a pursuit for justice that spanned more than three decades.

Sally McGrath, 22, was discovered partially buried in woodland at Castor Hanglands, west of Peterborough, on March 1, 1980.

She was naked except for a pair of boots at the time.

Taylor, residing on Valentine Close in Fareham, was also convicted of three counts of rape, an attempted rape, and a serious sexual offence.

Cambridgeshire Police detectives announced they are now investigating whether Taylor may have assaulted more women during the years he was at large.

During proceedings at Chelmsford Crown Court, Judge Mr Justice Owen remarked: "I think it is clear there was a sexual element to the murder of Sally McGrath." He explained, "The evidence revealed a pattern of behaviour in which you lured your victims under the pretence of giving them a lift home.

You then drove them to rural or isolated areas and forced yourself upon them." The judge emphasized that although Taylor's predatory sexual attacks took place over 30 years ago, the victims continue to bear the emotional scars.

"I have no doubt the brutal murder of Sally McGrath followed the same pattern and resulted from her resistance to your sexual demands," he added.
