PAUL MASON FROM NEWBURY FACES SERIOUS CHARGES OVER INDECENT CHILD IMAGES
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Newbury, Paul David Mason, a 49-year-old resident of Aintree Close, appeared before local magistrates last Thursday to face multiple serious charges related to the possession and creation of indecent images of children.Mr. Mason was formally charged with four counts of making indecent images of minors, with the alleged offenses spanning a period from September 15, 2006, to November 30, 2011. These charges indicate a prolonged period during which he is accused of engaging in illegal activities involving the exploitation of children through digital images.
In addition to these charges, Mr. Mason also admitted to possessing two images classified as extreme pornographic material. The court was informed that his computer was thoroughly examined by authorities, revealing that a small percentage of the images stored on his device fell into the higher categories of indecency, suggesting particularly graphic or disturbing content.
Stephen Collins, representing Mr. Mason, stated to the court that his client had made full admissions to police regarding the material found on his computer. Collins emphasized that, after discussions with the prosecuting attorney, Claire French, and considering the nature and number of the images, the case was deemed serious enough to warrant a transfer directly to the Crown Court for a more comprehensive hearing.
The court was also informed that Mr. Mason is currently required to sign in regularly at Newbury police station as part of his bail conditions. Magistrates, including presiding officer Sue Campbell, ordered that pre-sentence reports be prepared to assess Mr. Mason’s circumstances before the final sentencing.
The case has been scheduled for a sentencing hearing at Reading Crown Court, where a judge will determine the appropriate punishment. The hearing is set for March 18, and until then, Mr. Mason remains under supervision, awaiting the court’s final decision on his case.
