April 2023 ‘Predatory pervert’ who ‘can’t stop himself’ stashed secret phone in cupboard after deleting chats A notorious paedophile has started his fourth long prison sentence after he was caught with a secret mobile phone. Paul Jones was branded a “predatory paedophile” by a judge in 2018 – when he was caught chatting online to underage girls, just weeks after he had been released from prison. The now 40-year-old was jailed for four-years after it emerged he had been talking to two 14-year-old girls via Instagram and Facebook Messenger. He also deleted his internet history and used Snapchat with the unregistered alias “boroboy38”. He messaged one of the girls minutes before police came to his door, saying: “How come you’re not at school? xx” Jones was jailed for four years in 2008 for touching a 13-year-old girl then making venomous, insulting and hate-filled threats to kill her. In 2014, he received a 45-month sentence for breaching a sexual offences prevention order and having indecent images of children. Jones was hauled back before Teesside Crown Court after police received a tip-off from a “concerned parent.” Officers raided his Middlesbrough home and found that he had a undeclared mobile phone stashed in a cupboard. He had deleted over 1,000 messages from Kik, Snapchat and Facebook, between October 2022 and March 2023 – which break the terms of his sexual harm prevention order. Kelly Clarke, defending, said this was a “deliberate breach” as he was “clearly aware”. Judge Paul Watson KC told Jones, who appeared in court via video link from prison: “You simply can’t stop yourself. The only way to protect the public, and in particular children, is to impose an immediate custodial sentence.” Jones, of Middlesbrough Road in South Bank, was jailed for three-years and his sexual harm prevention order will last for the rest of his life. March 2018 Pervert in foul-mouthed court outburst after judge branded him a ‘predatory paedophile’ A pervert swore at the judge who branded him a “predatory paedophile” before he was given his third long prison sentence. Child sex offender Paul Vincent Jones, 37, is behind bars yet again after he chatted online with underage girls within weeks of release from prison. The judge, Recorder Jonathan Sandiford, told him: “You minimise your behaviour, which is that, in my judgment, clearly of a predatory paedophile.” Jones baulked at the description and blurted indignantly over a video link from Durham Prison: “Who the **** do you think you’re talking to?” Ordering the defendant’s voice to be muted, the judge continued: “You are a predatory paedophile. “It’s perfectly apparent that your sexual interest lies in children and you appear to have no interest in curbing that behaviour.” He said Jones made threats against probation officers and police officers and came up with implausible excuses when challenged about his behaviour. Jones was jailed for four years in 2008 for touching a 13-year-old girl then making venomous, insulting and hate-filled threats to kill her. He was jailed for 45 months in June 2014 for breaching a sexual offences prevention order and having indecent images of children. Five to six weeks after his release in October last year, he was offending again, putting him back at Teesside Crown Court today. Monitoring detectives grew concerned about him being “sexually preoccupied and unable to put correct boundaries in place and curb his need for sexual gratification”. Jones had been using “inappropriate online aliases”, said prosecutor Dr Christopher Wood. He became irate when officers asked for his phone passcode in an unannounced visit of his home on January 8 this year. In another foul-mouthed courtroom outburst, he disputed an allegation that he swore at police. It emerged he had been talking to two 14-year-old girls via Instagram and Facebook Messenger, deleting his internet history and using Snapchat with the unregistered alias “boroboy38”. He messaged one of the girls minutes before police came to his door, saying: “How come you’re not at school? xx” These activities fell foul of court orders designed to protect children from Jones, of Parliament Road, Middlesbrough. He admitted three offences of breaching a sexual harm prevention order and one of failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements. His 51 previous crimes included the 2008 conviction for sexual activity with a child. He had a caution for another breach in 2013 and for indecently assaulting a girl under 14 in 1997. Jones was jailed for four years. The judge told him: “If I had the power to do so, I would undoubtedly treat you as a dangerous offender and impose an extended sentence.”
