2011: MAN JAILED FOR A YEAR AFTER ATTACKS ON RELATIVES

A drugged-up 23-year-old Brierley Hill man who hit his uncle with a piece of wood before smashing windows in his grandfather's home with a brick has been jailed for a year.

Wolverhampton Crown Court Judge Patrick Thomas QC told Paul Handley, who had taken a cocktail of alcohol and cannabis, he had no alternative but to send Handley straight to prison as he had committed the offences while the subject of a Community Order for assaulting his mother.

Handley, of no fixed address, hit his uncle with the piece of wood after going to his grandfather's home in Tennyson Street, Pensnett, leaving him with a cut to his lip and a head wound that needed two stitches.

He then issued threats before hurling a brick through the windows and, as he walked away, he said he would return with a can of petrol.

Handley admitted burglary, assault causing actual bodily harm, and criminal damage and accepted he had behaved badly.

Sadhia Pathan, defending, said Handley had taken cannabis and alcohol before the offences and now realises he has issues that need addressing.

Warren Stanier, prosecuting, said Handley had seven previous convictions for assault including the attack on his mother and three other offences for criminal damage.

He also raided a friend’s home in The Stray, Brierley Hill, taking a £200 laptop computer.

He was arrested when police found a fingerprint on a kitchen window and a footprint on the window sill that matched shoes worn by Handley when he was picked up by officers.
