2012: PENSNETT MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ATTACK ON PARTNER
A PENSNETT man who punched his partner causing a potential life threatening injury has been jailed for 15 months.Wolverhampton Crown Court heard Donovan Blake left Samantha Simcock with a punctured lung and struggling to breathe during an incident when he also attacked her friend Emma Bateman with a child's scooter, breaking a bone in her wrist.
Blake, aged 47, who was described as "decent and hard working", fractured two of Miss Wilcox's ribs during a drink-fuelled assault.
Judge Michael Dudley told Blake: "This was serious domestic violence, a punctured lung is a life threatening injury and you are fortunate she was able to receive early treatment.
It was a sustained assault on two vulnerable women." Alka Brigue, prosecuting, told the court the two women had been out drinking and when she returned home Miss Wilcox sent a text to Blake asking him to call.
But when he got to the house he was angry because Miss Bateman was present and he then slapped his partner several times about the face.
Miss Brigue added: "He then punched her hard with his fist to the rib cage and she felt instant pain, she had immediate breathing problems, she felt hazy and Blake accused her of being a drama queen." Miss Wilcox managed to get out of the house but Blake grabbed her by the throat and then carried her back inside the property.
But by that time Miss Bateman had alerted the police and an ambulance was able to take her friend to hospital for treatment while Blake was arrested.
Blake, of Mayflower Drive, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on Miss Wilcox and assaulting Miss Bateman causing her actual bodily harm.
Harry Owen, for Blake, said the relationship between the couple had been "up and down" and stressed his client was full of remorse for his actions and "acted in a way that was completely out of character." Mr Owen added at time is the assault Blake had been drinking to excess after staying away from alcohol for some time.
