PAUL DRAKE SCARBOROUGH SEX OFFENDER CAUGHT TRYING TO MEET 14-YEAR-OLD DURING TORCH RELAY INCIDENT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Scarborough, Paul Anthony Drake, aged 53, has been exposed as a sexual predator involved in grooming a minor online with the intent to engage in sexual activity.Drake, who once gained local fame for carrying the Olympic torch through Scarborough during the 2012 London Olympics as part of his charity work, now faces serious criminal charges related to his predatory behavior.
According to reports from York Crown Court, Drake was arrested at Scarborough Railway Station on March 24, after a sting operation conducted by a vigilant group of paedophile hunters.
The group had set a trap for Drake, who believed he was meeting a 14-year-old girl.
Instead, members of the group were waiting outside the station, having lured him into a false meeting.
The arrest occurred just before midday, and Drake was immediately taken into custody for questioning.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Drake had attempted to communicate with the minor online between March 10 and 25.
He was charged with multiple offenses, including attempted sexual communication with a child under 16, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, and attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.
Evidence suggested that Drake traveled to Scarborough on at least two occasions with the apparent intention of meeting the minor for sexual purposes.
At his court appearance on the Monday following his arrest, Drake admitted to all three charges.
The court proceedings were temporarily adjourned to allow for probation reports to be prepared before sentencing.
Judge Andrew Stubbs QC warned Drake that he faced a potential jail sentence for his “significant and serious offences.” As of now, Drake has been granted conditional bail until his sentencing date scheduled for May 29.
In the meantime, he is required to sign the sex offenders’ register, a legal obligation for individuals convicted of such crimes.
The case has garnered considerable attention due to Drake’s previous public recognition and the serious nature of the allegations against him.
