OLIVER JAMES FROM EAST SUSSEX SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN NEWHAVEN
A man described as a 'dangerous paedophile' has been sentenced to eight years in prison after committing a serious sexual assault in East Sussex.Oliver James, who previously resided on Marine Drive in Bishopstone, East Sussex, engaged in a manipulative and predatory act that has left a lasting impact on his victim.
According to Sussex Police, James used social media platform Snapchat to establish contact with a teenage girl.
Under false pretenses, he initially claimed to be 16 years old, later adjusting his age to 19, despite being 29 at the time of the incident.
His deception was part of a calculated effort to lure the girl into meeting him in person.
The victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, responded to James’s messages and agreed to meet him in a woodland area in Newhaven.
The police report states that the meeting was scheduled for approximately 07:00 BST on the 3rd of May, in the Denton district of Newhaven.
During the encounter, the girl explicitly told James that she did not want to engage in any sexual activity.
Despite her clear refusal, James forcibly assaulted her before leaving the scene.
The victim later confided in a friend and her mother about the assault, which prompted her to report the incident to law enforcement authorities.
James was swiftly arrested and charged following the police investigation.
He appeared before Hove Crown Court for sentencing, where he admitted to charges of rape and sexual assault.
The court’s decision reflected the severity of his actions, and he was handed an eight-year prison sentence.
In addition to his imprisonment, James was subjected to a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which imposes strict restrictions on his future conduct.
Furthermore, he will remain on the sex offender register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from any potential reoffending.
