Neil McTaggart

Braintree Sexual Abuser

May 2019 Braintree music teacher admits trying to meet child for sex A music teacher from Braintree has admitted a grooming a child on the first day of his trial after getting caught in a ‘paedophile hunter sting.’ Neil McTaggart, 45, of Mill Park Drive, was due to stand trial today (Monday, May 20), however he changed his plea from not guilty to guilty before the trial could get underway. At Chelmsford Crown Court, McTaggart admitted one count of attempting to meet a boy under 16 years of age following grooming between June 6, and June 16, 2017. The music teacher had started chatting to a fake profile, known as a decoy and was arrested by police at Tesco in Braintree after receiving information from group CSE Interceptors. CSE Interceptors carry out stings in a bid to bring offenders to justice. After previously denying the offence, McTaggart today changed his plea to guilty and will be sentenced later this year. Judge Christopher Morgan adjourned the case for sentencing on July 15, again at Chelmsford Crown Court.
