DAMON JARVIS ESCAPES PRISON FOR SEXUAL INDECENCY IN BRAINTREE AND TOLLESBURY

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Braintree and Tollesbury, Damon Jarvis, a 29-year-old man, narrowly avoided a prison sentence after being convicted of exposing himself in public places frequented by young girls. The incident has raised serious concerns about public safety and the protection of minors in these areas.

According to court proceedings, the distressing episodes occurred over a span of several months, from April of the previous year through October of this year. The victims, all girls aged between 12 and 16, were left visibly shaken and frightened by Jarvis’s inappropriate and illegal behavior. The court heard detailed accounts of encounters that took place in different locations within Braintree, highlighting a pattern of disturbing conduct.

One of the incidents involved a 16-year-old girl who saw Jarvis in an alleyway near Cressing Road on October 10. The following day, a 12-year-old girl reported seeing Jarvis near Freeport, where she was confronted by his presence. The situation escalated three days later when two 15-year-old girls, walking between the Marks Farm Tesco store and Bartram Avenue, turned around after hearing a wolf whistle. To their shock, they saw Jarvis exposing himself while holding a pornographic magazine, an act that caused them significant distress, as described by prosecutor Mark Lakin during the court hearing.

Jarvis admitted to three charges of indecent exposure and requested that nine additional similar charges be considered during sentencing. His plea reflected a recognition of his misconduct, but the court emphasized the seriousness of his actions. As part of his sentence, Jarvis was ordered to adhere to a three-year supervision program, which includes mandatory attendance at a sex offenders’ rehabilitation course. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders’ register for a period of five years.

Judge Christopher Ball QC addressed Jarvis directly, explaining that he was not being sent to prison at this time because he had already spent the equivalent of a four-month sentence on remand. The judge expressed strong disapproval of Jarvis’s behavior, stating, “When you are doing this, you are distressing, upsetting and frightening young girls. They will be reluctant to walk down alleyways or go to the shops for fear that they may meet some pervert.”

Furthermore, Judge Ball issued a stern warning, indicating that if Jarvis commits similar offenses in the future, he could face imprisonment. The ruling underscores the importance of safeguarding vulnerable members of the community and sends a clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated, even if it currently results in a non-custodial sentence.
