NAZARS GALAKS'S CRIMES IN LIVINGSTON

In March 2014, Nazars Galaks, a 25-year-old Russian immigrant living in Livingston, caused terror among young schoolgirls and a teenage girl with threatening and inappropriate behavior.

Galaks frightened two primary schoolgirls aged ten and 11 while they were in a play park in Livingston, threatening to climb into their bedroom windows and assault them. He also expressed intentions to slit the throats of their family members—dads, brothers, and boyfriends—and threaten to hang them from a lamppost.

Earlier that evening, the court heard, Galaks, who had been drinking, made unwanted advances towards a 16-year-old girl at a nearby underpass. He approached her and remarked, “The first time I see you – wow! You’re gorgeous.” When she asked if he was drunk, he responded, “No, I’m sober when I see you.”

As her friends arrived, he asked them to leave so he could speak to the teenager privately. He then stepped toward her with his arms open and lips puckered, giving her the impression he intended to kiss her. The girl backed away and later went home to tell her mother about the incident.

Her mother confronted Galaks later and demanded an explanation for his behavior. She then called the police, leading to his detention shortly after 11pm. When initially charged, Galaks denied threatening anyone, stating, “I didn’t threaten anyone.”

Galaks, of Clement Rise in Livingston, pleaded guilty to breaching the peace by making threatening and sexual remarks that caused fear and alarm among the girls. The incidents took place in the Dedridge area of Livingston on August 2 of the previous year.

Defense lawyer Alan Jackson described Galaks as a first-time offender and suggested he had recently moved due to “suggestions of repercussions.”

Sentencing, Sheriff John Rafferty emphasized the seriousness of Galaks's conduct, stating, “The conduct referred to in the charge to which you’ve pled guilty is serious conduct and may have had a considerable impact upon the young children.”

Galaks was sentenced to three years of supervised release, during which he is required to participate in group sessions aimed at rehabilitating child sex offenders. Additionally, he is prohibited from contacting children under 16, and his name will remain on the sex offenders register for three years.
