NADEEM ABIS FROM NORMANTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN DERBY
In December 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Nadeem Abis, a resident of Becher Street in Normanton, who was convicted of sharing highly inappropriate and illegal images involving children. The incident came to light after police conducted an unannounced search at his home in Derby on July 8. During the search, officers seized his mobile phone and discovered a disturbing collection of child abuse images and videos, totaling 21 in number. Among these, 15 were classified as the most serious category A images, indicating the highest level of severity and concern.Further investigation revealed that Abis had distributed one particularly vile image to a dozen contacts within his WhatsApp messaging application. This image depicted a girl aged approximately 12 to 14 years performing a sexual act on a boy estimated to be between six and eight years old. The distribution of such a graphic and illegal image highlights the severity of his actions and the potential harm inflicted upon the victims depicted.
Authorities also uncovered that Abis had visited internet sites with titles such as 'family porn' and 'tiny teens,' although it remains unclear whether he actively searched for such content or merely visited these pages. The police found that he had previously been convicted of indecent exposure in July 2015, which led to a sex offender notification requirement. Under this order, he was obliged to inform police if he was living with anyone under the age of 18. However, it was discovered that he failed to disclose the presence of two girls aged 15 and 16, who were residing at the same property.
Following his arrest, Nadeem Abis admitted to his involvement in the offenses, including making indecent images of children, distributing such images, and possessing extreme pornographic material. He also confessed to breaching the conditions of his sex offender registration. His actions prompted a serious response from the judicial system, with Derby Crown Court sentencing him to 18 months in prison. Judge Jonathan Bennett emphasized the gravity of his conduct, stating, “You have been described by the probation service as someone who poses a high risk of sexual harm to children. These images and movies are of real children who have been abused and that is why Parliament takes it as seriously as they do. It is not just a fantasy, these images are created to satisfy people such as you.”
Sarah Slater, prosecuting, highlighted the disturbing nature of the case, noting that the police’s swift intervention and seizure of the phone uncovered the extent of Abis’s offending. The case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat child exploitation and the importance of strict legal measures to protect vulnerable victims from such heinous crimes.
