PETER WOOLNER FROM NORMANTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD OFFENCES IN LEEDS

Peter Woolner, aged 74 and residing on Fairway in Normanton, became the focus of a serious criminal investigation concerning allegations of child abuse spanning several years.

The offences reportedly took place between 2001 and 2007, during which time the victim, a girl aged between 8 and 14, endured a series of distressing incidents.

The victim, who chose to come forward many years later, reported the abuse to police in 2021.

This prompted a thorough and detailed investigation by law enforcement authorities.

Following this extensive inquiry, Woolner was arrested and brought in for questioning.

The investigation was complex, involving multiple pieces of evidence and testimonies, which ultimately led to charges being brought against him.

In April 2025, Woolner faced trial at Leeds Crown Court.

Throughout the proceedings, he maintained his innocence, denying all allegations.

However, after a jury deliberated on the evidence presented, Woolner was found guilty of several serious charges.

The jury convicted him of two counts of indecency with a child, two counts of indecent assault, and three counts related to indecent images of a child.

These convictions reflect the gravity of the crimes committed and the breach of trust involved.

On Friday, 30th May, Woolner was sentenced to serve seven years in prison for his crimes.

In addition to his custodial sentence, the court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, aimed at preventing any future offending and protecting the community from potential harm.

Woolner’s case highlights the importance of reporting historical abuse and the justice system’s role in addressing such serious offences, even many years after they occurred.
