December 2006 ‘Predatory paedophile’ is jailed A Derby man described as a “dangerous and predatory paedophile” by the Crown Prosecution Service has been given an indeterminate prison sentence. Gilbert Goddard, 48, of Upperdale Road, Normanton, was found guilty of rape and sexual assault at Derby Crown Court on 1 December. He earlier admitted one charge of sexual activity with a child, and a further charge of sexual assault. Goddard was ordered to serve a minimum of five years in jail. ‘Emotionally vulnerable’ He will also be on the sex offenders register for life. The charges involved three girls aged under 16-years-old. Speaking after the trial, Anna Zimand, Head of the Trials Unit at Derbyshire CPS, said: “Goddard is a very dangerous sexual predatory paedophile. “He deliberately selected his victims on the basis they were emotionally vulnerable and fragile, and had no immediate supporting family ties. “He then set about securing their trust by complimenting them and creating an environment within his home in Normanton that many teenagers would find irresistible – the provision of films, television, alcohol, tobacco, and the absence of rules and discipline generally.”
