SCOTLAND JAIL FOR VIOLENT PARTNER ATTACKER
A domestic abuser from Alloa who attacked his partner while driving her along a dual carriageway has been sentenced to two years in jail.Mujtaba Choudry, aged 23, grabbed his victim by the hair as he sped along the A720 Edinburgh bypass and pushed her head against the car door.
The sheriff described Choudry as "controlling, violent and manipulative" throughout a six-month period of abuse starting in October of the previous year.
He previously admitted to multiple incidents of domestic abuse across Alloa, Falkirk, and other locations.
The assault occurred after the woman told him she wanted to end their relationship.
It was his second conviction for domestic abuse against the same woman, though the first to result in imprisonment.
A social background report labeled him as "maximum risk" of reoffending with entrenched behaviors.
The court heard how he controlled her social media accounts, became angry when she made plans with friends, repeatedly called her when she was out, limited her mobile phone use, and threatened self-harm if she discussed ending the relationship.
Furthermore, he physically assaulted her by compressing her neck, kicking her in the head, throwing her make-up, pulling her from a sofa, and dragging her along the floor.
Despite a court order for him to stay away from her, he continued his abusive behavior, blatantly flouting the order.
During sentencing, his solicitor expressed remorse on his behalf.
Sheriff Euan Gosney imposed a two-year imprisonment, followed by a year of supervision after his release.
Choudry was also subjected to a non-harassment order banning him from contacting her for ten years.
The sheriff highlighted that Choudry's reactions, including grabbing the woman's mouth and hair while driving at high speed, endangered both her and other road users, noting it as part of his "protracted pattern of abuse".
