MUHAMMED SHAHID FROM BURNLEY AND RUSHOLME SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE SCANDAL
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Burnley and Rusholme, Muhammed Shahid, a 45-year-old man with strong religious convictions, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison following his conviction for sexual misconduct involving a young girl. The incident took place last November and was brought to light during a court hearing at Burnley Crown Court.Shahid, who is known for his devout Muslim faith and prays five times daily, was accused of orchestrating a series of actions that created an inappropriate environment for sexual activity with a schoolgirl from Burnley. The court heard how Shahid had deliberately 'set the scene' for sexual behaviour, engaging in actions that gradually led to the misconduct. The victim, a young girl attending school in Burnley, was manipulated by Shahid, who was then residing in Burnley but maintained a family life in Rusholme, Manchester, where he lived with his wife and child. Despite his residence in Manchester, Shahid was staying temporarily in Burnley at the time of the incident.
Judge Raymond Bennett presided over the case, and Shahid was found guilty by a jury of an indecency charge after denying any wrongdoing. The court was informed that Shahid had begun the inappropriate interaction by hugging the young girl and encouraging her to reciprocate. Prosecutor Tim Brennand described the actions as a calculated attempt by Shahid to build up a sexual conversation and create an environment conducive to improper conduct. The prosecution further alleged that Shahid discussed a pornographic video with the girl and suggested they watch it together, which added to the severity of the misconduct.
Following the conviction, the victim confided in her mother about the incident, prompting police intervention. Shahid was subsequently arrested and taken in for questioning. During police interviews, Shahid claimed that he had been alone with the child but denied any form of inappropriate behaviour or conduct. Despite his denials, the jury found sufficient evidence to convict him of the charges, leading to his sentencing.
This case highlights the disturbing breach of trust and the serious consequences of such misconduct, especially involving a minor. The communities of Burnley and Rusholme are reminded of the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable individuals from predatory behaviour by those who may appear outwardly devout or trustworthy.
