PHILLIP GREENWOOD OF BURNTLEY SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES

In September 2012, Phillip Greenwood, aged 60, was sentenced to one year in prison after being found in possession of a disturbing collection of internet child abuse videos depicting babies in nappies being raped.

Greenwood was apprehended at his residence on Mizpah Street, Burnley, in January. When police arrived to seize his computer equipment, he handed over a USB stick and admitted, “I won’t waste your time. I will give you this. There’s things on there that I shouldn’t have been looking at,” as reported during the hearing at Burnley Crown Court.

The court was informed that the defendant possessed at least 75 indecent videos involving children, five of which were classified as the most severe category. Authorities also discovered that Greenwood had been attempting to destroy evidence on his computer.

Greenwood pleaded guilty to 21 counts of making indecent images of children. Following the sentencing, Pennine magistrates ordered him to register as a sex offender for 10 years, imposed a lifelong ban on working with children, and issued a sexual offences prevention order to limit his computer usage.
