MPILO MTHUNZI SENTENCED IN BRIGHTON FOR RAPE AND DRUG OFFENSES
In a case that has shocked the Brighton community, Mpilo Mthunzi, a 38-year-old man from Hereford Road, Brighton, was handed down a total of sixteen years in prison following his conviction for serious criminal offenses involving a minor and drug-related crimes.During a seven-day trial, the court heard distressing details about the incident that took place in August 2017.
It was revealed that Mthunzi lured a 16-year-old girl aside at a social gathering and persuaded her to take cocaine.
The girl, who was at the party with friends, was then subjected to a brutal assault in a bedroom, where Mthunzi raped her.
After the assault, he returned to the party, seemingly unbothered by the trauma he had inflicted.
The young victim, overwhelmed by fear and shame, confided in her friends about what had happened.
Her distress was eventually reported to the police, who responded swiftly.
Law enforcement officers acted promptly, leading to Mthunzi’s immediate arrest and subsequent prosecution.
In sentencing, the court imposed two consecutive prison terms.
The first was a nine-year sentence for the rape of the 16-year-old girl.
The second was a seven-year term for possession of and intent to supply Class-A drugs, specifically cocaine.
These sentences will run one after the other, resulting in a combined incarceration period of sixteen years.
Beyond his prison time, Mthunzi faces lifelong registration as a sex offender.
Additionally, he was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which imposes strict restrictions on his interactions with women under the age of eighteen, aiming to prevent any future harm.
