May 2004 Web porn offender spared prison A computer technician from Brighton, Sussex, who admitted downloading child pornography on the internet has been spared a prison sentence. Anthony Booth, 39, of Carden Hill, admitted making and possessing images of children at Lewes Crown Court. He also told the court he was “ashamed” by what he had done. Booth was ordered to serve a three-year community rehabilitation order and attend a sex offenders’ treatment programme. Sex offenders’ register Booth was arrested in January 2003, after police raided his home and discovered indecent pictures of children on three computer hard drives. He admitted six counts of making indecent images of children and two counts of possessing indecent images of children. He also asked the court to take a further 100 similar offences into consideration. Judge Charles Kemp told Booth he had “just” escaped a custodial sentence because prison could not provide “the type of therapy” he needed. He ordered that Booth be placed on the sex offenders’ register for five years, along with banning him from working with children. The judge also ordered that Booth’s computer and software be destroyed and for the computer technician to pay £245 in prosecution costs.
