January 2009 Doctor jailed for child porn A HOSPITAL doctor who sent an undercover FBI officer five video files showing children being sexually abused was today behind bars. The US officer received an unsolicited email from a “British perverted fun” address. And when he responded they discussed the possibility of exchanging indecent pictures of children. Police tracked down the address to Dr Michael Jones, who was then living with his parents in Knowsley. The 29-year-old was arrested at his room at the Chesterfield royal hospital. His computer was seized and he admitted sending the videos to the FBI officer. He also admitted telling him he had sexually abused a seven-year-old boy but said the claim was untrue and it had been “a fantasy”. Liverpool crown court heard that when his computer was analysed after his arrest in November 2005, officers found 88 indecent photographs of children. Jailing him for 16 months, Judge John Phipps said that one video file in particular was “disgusting and distressing”. The judge added: “These images are each and every one an image of an exploited, abused and damaged child. At the time, you were a doctor at the Chesterfield royal hospital. “Quite what possessed you to get involved with this sort of material is beyond me.” Judge Phipps ordered him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years. Jones, of Switchback Road, South Maidenhead, Berkshire, pleaded guilty to two charges of distributing indecent images and 12 of making indecent images. Sarah Phelan, defending, said Jones, who resigned after his arrest, has no previous convictions. She said: “He now appreciates how serious his offending was.” He co-operated with the police and has had the matter hanging over him for three years and made a serious attempt on his life, she added.
