HUCKNALL MAN MARTYN DAVY SENTENCED FOR ONLINE GROOMING AND CHILD SEX ABUSE IN NOTTINGHAM

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Hucknall, Martyn Davy, aged 25, has been sentenced to 32 months in prison after being found guilty of grooming and sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl via the internet. The disturbing details of the case were laid bare during the proceedings at Nottingham Crown Court, where Judge Michael Stokes described the offences as “every parent’s nightmare.”

According to court reports, Davy, who resides on Queen Street in Hucknall, engaged in a disturbing online relationship with the young girl, who was only 13 at the time. Over a period of 14 weeks, the court heard, Davy persuaded the girl to remove her clothing during their Skype conversations, which involved webcams on their laptops. Both parties exposed themselves and engaged in sexual activity during these video chats, activities that Davy recorded and subsequently turned into two separate videos. The court was told that despite the sexual nature of their interactions, the pair never met in person.

The police became involved after the girl confided in her friends at school about receiving sexual text messages from a man. The authorities acted swiftly, seizing the laptops used by both individuals and analyzing their Skype logs, which confirmed the exchanges. During his arrest, officers discovered that Davy had downloaded a staggering 4,380 indecent images of children, ranging in age from five to 15, which he had accumulated over a span of four years. This evidence painted a disturbing picture of his ongoing involvement with child exploitation material.

Martyn Davy pleaded guilty to four charges related to online sexual activity with a minor, covering the period from January 8th to April 22nd, 2013, during which the girl turned 14. Additionally, he admitted to three charges concerning the possession and making of indecent images between August 1st, 2009, and December 1st, 2013. The court heard that Davy’s sexual interests appeared to be focused on older women, as he claimed during police interviews that he could not recall being told the girl’s age and believed she looked 18 or 19. He also stated that his sexual preferences were not directed towards young girls.

Prosecutor Dawn Pritchard outlined the grooming process, explaining that the girl had initially created an account on the adult-dating website Flirt, claiming to be 19 and posting photos of her face and cleavage. Davy initiated contact by messaging her, and although she disclosed her true age shortly after, they continued communicating via Skype webcams. The girl was in her bedroom when they first interacted, and Davy’s requests for explicit images and his expressions of romantic interest marked the beginning of a grooming process. She sent him approximately ten photos of herself in her underwear, and he responded by calling her “gorgeous” and “beautiful.”

During police interviews, Davy claimed he did not remember being told the girl’s age and insisted that he believed she was an adult. He stated that his sexual interests were directed towards older women, not minors. The girl, meanwhile, appeared “somewhat embarrassed and reluctant” during her police interview. She expressed regret for having engaged in the exchanges but also revealed feelings of being used and manipulated by Davy. She is currently experiencing bullying and name-calling at school, which has added to her distress. The court was told that she is receiving support and simply wants the ordeal to be over.

Judge Stokes sentenced Davy to a total of 32 months in prison, ordered him to register as a sex offender for life, and imposed a ban on any contact with females under the age of 16. The case underscores the dangers of online grooming and the importance of vigilance in protecting young people from exploitation in digital spaces.
