2012: PENSNETT SEX ATTACKER JAILED FOR SIX YEARS
A PENSNETT sex attacker branded a danger to women has been jailed for a "terrifying and humiliating" assault. At Wolverhampton Crown Court, Judge Michael Challinor caged Mark Greenaway, aged 35, for six years after a jury found him guilty of sexual assault and making a threat to kill.
Judge Challinor further ruled Greenaway must remain on licence for nine years after he has completed his time behind bars and register a sex offender for the rest of his life.
He told Greenaway: "When you are frustrated or challenged particularly when attempting to obtain sexual relief it is the case that you explode into violence with serious consequences." The Judge said it was clear Greenaway was trying to hurt his frightened victim who was attacked in a "violent and sexual way" before a pillow was placed over her face.
Greenaway then told her: "I am not going to stop until you stop breathing" and, when she complained she could not breathe, he added, "That is the whole point." Judge Challinor said that on the night in question Greenaway had been drinking as he went on: "It is clear you were determined on a sexual encounter." He added: "This was a truly terrifying incident - a violent and humiliating sexual assault.
The sustained nature of the attack was extremely serious.
"The circumstances lead me to conclude you are a danger to women.
You pose a significant risk of future harm to women." He ruled a light sentence was totally inappropriate for the crimes as he told Greenaway: "What is needed in your case in an extended sentence." Greenaway, of Medway Close, a man of previous good character had denied the charges.
Simon Rippon, defending, said his client drank a "modest amount" just once a week.
