July 2002 Pervert is banned from former home A PERVERT alarm fitter who molested an eight-year-old boy has been banned from Brockley, after escaping a prison sentence. Mark Donovan, aged 24, gained the trust of his hapless victim and his family by taking him to fast-food outlets, Blackfriars Crown Court heard. But his family soon realised the “friendship” had become more sinister as the young boy arrived home seriously distressed from one of his stays at Donovan’s home, in Brockley Park, Forest Hill. They called the police on September 8 last year and Donovan was arrested. On July 8, he pleaded guilty to one charge of indecent assault, while two similar charges were left on file. Judge Alan Hitching stated Donovan would need “assessment and treatment over a considerable period of time”. He has to register as a sex offender for five years, during which time he will not be allowed in Brockley. Donovan, who since his crime has moved to Bracknell, in Berkshire, was told to complete a three-month community rehabilitation order and pay £566 costs.
