MARK BRADLEY AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN SALISBURY
A man convicted of despicable acts of child abuse and intimidation in Salisbury has been sentenced to serve a significant prison term. Mark Bradley, aged 44 and formerly residing on Antrobus Road, Amesbury, was brought before Winchester Crown Court to face the consequences of his heinous actions. After a comprehensive four-week trial that commenced on May 16, the jury found Bradley guilty on multiple serious charges, including four counts of rape, two of which involved girls aged between 13 and 15, as well as three charges of cruelty to a child. In addition to these convictions, Bradley was also found guilty of causing actual bodily harm, four counts of indecent assault, and one count of sexual assault. Throughout the proceedings, Bradley maintained his innocence, denying the allegations against him. Despite his denial, the evidence presented and the jury’s deliberation led to a conviction that confirmed his guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
The case revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse that began when the victims were only seven years old, underscoring the prolonged and insidious nature of Bradley’s misconduct. Judge John Dixon described the case as “as chilling as it is shocking,” emphasizing the grievous impact on the victims. He highlighted that Bradley’s predatory behavior had inflicted “unquestionable and incalculable damage” to those affected.
Following the verdict, Bradley was sentenced to a total of 16 years in prison. The judge specified that Bradley would serve a minimum of eight years behind bars, with an additional two-year extension on license following his release. Addressing Bradley directly during sentencing, Judge Dixon condemned his actions, stating, “The catalogue of offences of which the jury convicted you almost beggars belief. You abandoned any humanity you had. You behaved like an animal - a callous and brutal one at that.”
Furthermore, the judge criticized Bradley’s attitude, noting that he did not accept his guilt and showed no remorse for his actions. During the sentencing, Bradley unexpectedly shouted out, “I have done nothing to be ashamed of,” betraying his lack of acknowledgment for his crimes.
In addition to incarceration, Bradley has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for an indefinite period, ensuring ongoing monitoring and regulation of his whereabouts. A sexual offences prevention order has also been imposed, restricting his conduct and safeguarding potential future victims.
A representative from Wiltshire Police commented on the case, describing Bradley as “a manipulative and depraved man who intimidated and sexually abused these girls over a period of many years.” The police spokesperson praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward, recognizing the trauma involved in recounting their suffering. They expressed hope that the verdict would provide some measure of justice and closure. The police further urged anyone who has been subject to sexual abuse, past or present, to contact law enforcement, emphasizing their commitment to protecting victims and pursuing justice in similar cases.
