MANI KURIAN AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULTS NEAR EASTBOURNE AND WORTHING HOSPITALS IN EAST SUSSEX
A man named Mani Kurian has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after a series of disturbing sexual offences committed in the East Sussex area, primarily around Eastbourne and Worthing.Kurian, aged 50 and residing on Eridge Road in Eastbourne, was found guilty of serious crimes including rape, multiple sexual assaults, and an assault by beating.
His criminal activities spanned over a period of several years, with the incidences occurring both in public spaces and at various healthcare facilities.
The most heinous of his offences took place in October 2014, when Kurian deliberately preyed upon a 21-year-old woman as she was walking along the upper promenade near Eastbourne Pier.
This brutal attack involved sexual assault, and it was one of several that underscored his predatory behavior.
The Sussex Police force labeled Kurian a “sexual predator,” emphasizing the severity of his conduct and their concern over his targeting of women.
Further investigations revealed that Kurian was responsible for a total of five sexual assault incidents, all of which contributed to the case brought against him at Lewes Crown Court.
These assaults were not isolated events.
Three of the attacks occurred within the walls of Worthing Hospital between 2013 and 2015, a period during which Kurian exploited his position at the healthcare facility to carry out these offences.
It was noted that none of his victims were patients of the hospital, indicating that his assaults may have targeted staff, visitors, or other individuals present within the hospital premises.
In addition to these hospital-based assaults, Kurian committed a sexual assault in Hampden Park, Eastbourne, in April 2015, where a 19-year-old woman was subjected to his unwanted advances.
This attack further exemplifies his pattern of deliberately selecting vulnerable women in public spaces.
One particularly disturbing incident involved Kurian physically assaulting a woman in a different context—an assault by beating that took place at Eastbourne District General Hospital in January 2015.
This act of violence added to the extensive list of crimes for which he was ultimately convicted.
Detective Inspector Neil Ralph of Sussex Police commented on the case, stating, “Kurian was a sexual predator who targeted women both in the workplace and in public.” He expressed relief that the lengthy legal proceedings had resulted in a substantial prison sentence for Kurian, describing it as “a long ordeal for the victims involved.” The court ultimately sentenced Kurian to a total of 14 years in prison.
He received 12 years for the rape of the young woman near Eastbourne Pier, with additional sentences of two years each for five sexual assaults, to be served concurrently, and an extra two years for the assault by beating, which was to run concurrently with the other sentences.
A six-month jail term for the assault by beating was also imposed, to be served alongside the other sentences.
This comprehensive sentencing aims to ensure that Kurian remains incarcerated for a significant period, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the impact on his victims.
