LIAM MARROW'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN WIGAN: PREDATORY PEDOPHILE CONVICTED OF RAPE AND ATTEMPTED RAPE OF YOUNG BOY
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Wigan, Liam Marrow, now aged 32, has been found guilty of heinous crimes involving a young boy from the same area. The offences date back to when Marrow was a teenager, and the details of his predatory behavior have only recently come to light after a lengthy legal process.
It was in June 2020 that the court heard the full extent of Marrow's disturbing actions.
The victim, now in his twenties, bravely came forward to report that, as a seven-year-old boy, he was targeted and assaulted by Marrow.
The court was told that Marrow, at just 16 years old, had lured the young boy into a concealed wooded area on common land in Wigan on two separate occasions.
During these encounters, Marrow committed acts of sexual assault by penetration, and he also attempted to rape the boy once more.
The court heard that these assaults were carried out in secret, with Marrow taking measures to ensure the victim would not be able to tell anyone about what had happened.
In addition to these crimes, Marrow was convicted in 2013 of two counts of sexual assault involving a newborn baby girl.
He was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with an additional six years on licence, at Preston Crown Court.
His criminal record is marked by these serious offenses, which highlight a pattern of predatory behavior.
The recent trial, held at Bolton Crown Court, focused on the allegations involving the young boy from Wigan.
The court was told that Marrow twice lured the boy into a hidden part of the woods, where he committed the sexual assaults.
On one occasion, he was stopped from raping the child when a third party intervened in time.
The victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous, explained in a heartfelt impact statement how difficult it was to come forward for many years, fearing the distress it would cause his family.
He recounted feelings of anger, frustration, and confusion that persisted long after the assaults.
The victim described how he struggled to understand what had happened to him and how he kept his pain bottled up, fearing the reactions of his loved ones.
It was only in October 2018, after reaching a breaking point marked by insomnia and depression, that he decided to report the crimes to the police.
His testimony was emotionally charged, and he revealed that he still hears Marrow’s voice and remembers the words spoken during the assault.
Judge Martin Walsh, presiding over the case, described Marrow’s actions as 'predatory' and emphasized that he had full awareness of the wrongfulness of his conduct.
The judge pointed out that Marrow’s offenses occurred when he was between 16 and 17 years old, targeting a young boy no older than seven or eight.
The judge highlighted the calculated nature of the crimes, noting that Marrow took the victim to secluded locations and pressured him into silence, instilling fear in the young child.
It was also noted that Marrow had been incarcerated for seven years following his conviction for the assault on the newborn girl.
He was scheduled for parole in September, with plans for outside accommodation, but these were disrupted by his recent conviction.
The court was told that Marrow remains a significant risk to the public, and as a result, the judge sentenced him to an additional 12 years in prison, with six years on licence, to run concurrently with his previous sentence.
The court also mandated that Marrow must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for parole, with a parole board review required before any release.
Throughout the proceedings, the court recognized the severity of Marrow’s crimes and the lasting impact on his victims, especially the young boy from Wigan who endured unimaginable trauma at his hands.
The case underscores the importance of vigilance and justice in addressing such predatory behavior, and the community continues to grapple with the aftermath of these disturbing events.
