Peter Wynn

Wigan Northwich Sexual Abuser

March 2006 Pensioner jailed for sex abuse of girl, 14 A PENSIONER who sexually abused a Wigan schoolgirl has been jailed for five-and-a-half years. Peter Wynn, 69, was also placed under extended licence for two years when released, ordered to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life and banned from working with children indefinitely. Liverpool Crown Court heard that Wynn lived on a barge which travelled between Northwich and Wigan. Wynn, who was in ill health, got to know the 14-year-old girl and her family in late 2003. In March last year they reported him missing and he was eventually found in the Countess of Chester Hospital having suffered a breakdown. He told a nurse about his indecent behaviour with the girl. When transferred to another hospital he tried to kill himself and again confessed to a nurse, said Keith Sutton, prosecuting. When arrested, Wynn admitted molesting the girl and encouraging her to perform a lewd act on him. Wynn, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to oral rape and sexual touching between December 31, 2004 and March 9 last year. Eric Lamb, defending, said Wynn confessed to a nurse because he could not stand what he had done. Wynn, who suffers from chronic obstructive disease, cardiac and joint problems and has a reduced life expectancy, could not explain why he behaved as he did, said Mr Lamb. Jailing him Judge David Aubrey, QC, said: “The emotional damage caused to the girl is incalculable. Her behaviour at school changed dramatically.”
