LIAM DAVEY FROM SOUTHAMPTON CAUGHT TWICE WITH INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Southampton, Liam Davey, aged 27, was found to possess a significant collection of indecent images depicting children as young as six years old.The case unfolded over a period of time, revealing a troubling pattern of behavior that led to his arrest on two separate occasions.
According to court reports, police first apprehended Davey in January 2021 at his residence on Meggeson Avenue.
During this initial raid, officers discovered a disturbing cache of images stored on his devices, which included 31 images classified as Category A—the most severe classification—along with 15 images in Category B and 10 in Category C.
These images depicted children in various states of distress and exploitation, raising serious concerns about his activities.
Following his arrest, Davey was formally charged and appeared before the court.
Despite the legal proceedings, authorities continued their investigation, and in May of this year, police returned to his home for a follow-up visit.
During this subsequent visit, Davey cooperated with officers by leading them to another property, where further evidence was uncovered.
This led to additional charges, including possession of 10 Category A images, four of which were movies, along with three Category B images and eight Category C images.
Some of these images depicted children as young as six or seven years old, with police noting that Davey had saved these images on his devices.
Prosecutor Keeley Harvey explained that while Davey did not save images of children under six, he believed that images of children over 12 were acceptable because he considered them to be experimenting with their bodies.
This disturbing justification highlights the extent of his distorted views and the severity of his offending.
Furthermore, the court was informed that Davey was involved in distributing and sharing these images, some of which showed children in pain and distress, indicating a level of active participation in the exploitation of minors.
During the court proceedings, Davey pleaded guilty to six counts of making indecent images of children.
He claimed that the images originated from a website where others had shared them with him, suggesting a degree of involvement in a wider network of offenders.
The judge, Nicholas Rowland, sentenced Davey to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time immediately but would be under supervision for that period.
Additionally, Davey was ordered to comply with a five-year sexual harm prevention order, attend 35 days of rehabilitation activities, complete 200 hours of unpaid work, and register as a sex offender.
Judge Rowland emphasized the seriousness of the case, noting that the second set of offences occurred while Davey was under investigation and possibly on court bail.
He expressed his concern about the broader implications of such crimes, stating, “It is because of people like Davey that children around the world are repeatedly abused in this dreadful fashion.” The judge acknowledged the gravity of the situation and justified the decision to suspend the sentence, describing it as “a very thinly balanced decision” but ultimately just.
