MAN CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN SOUTHAMPTON JAILED
A man has been sentenced to prison after being found in possession of hundreds of images depicting child abuse, despite having previously served time for the same crime.
Daniel Bartlett appeared before Southampton Crown Court to receive his sentence for possessing numerous child abuse images and for violating a sexual harm prevention order.
The police uncovered the images during a court-mandated visit to his residence on December 1, 2023, shortly after he handed over his phone and PIN to officers.
He was charged with creating 203 Category A images, 266 Category B images, and 384 Category C images.
The 35-year-old also failed to register a new address within the required seven days, thereby breaching the order.
Bartlett has a criminal record with 12 prior convictions covering 23 offences, including possession of child abuse images and breaches of the sexual harm prevention order.
The court sentenced him to 20 months in prison and imposed a ten-year notification requirement.
Additionally, a deprivation order was issued for his phone.
The judge remarked on the delay in police prosecution and highlighted Bartlett’s pattern of offending, often associated with mental health issues.
His mitigation argued that he suffers from mental health difficulties and has support from his partner if he is released.
The court's ruling followed the activation of a previously suspended sentence in 2024, resulting in his imprisonment.
As he exited the courtroom, a woman in the public gallery shouted, "I love you."
