June 2000 Sex pest on register Paedophile Leslie Jones has been put on the sex offenders register after a court heard how he abused a young boy over a series of months. Jones, 48, of West End, Westbury, carried out a string of indecent assaults on the 12-year-old after befriending him and his family. Swindon Crown Court heard Jones, a married father-of-one, and the boy became close in mid-1998. He started improperly touching the boy, and continued the assaults despite the child’s protests. The court was told Jones encouraged the child to visit him on evenings when he knew his wife would be out and his seven-year-old son was asleep in bed. The youngster told his parents about the assaults only towards the end of last year, after Jones said he would stop, but continued to touch him. When he was arrested he admitted carrying out the attacks but could not give a reason for doing it, telling officers he did not enjoy doing it. The court heard the boy’s family had had to move away as a result of the attacks and the child had become withdrawn. Jones admitted four indecent assaults and two counts of gross indecency, which Judge John Foley was told represented a course of conduct. Anita Meech, defending, said her client had been badly abused as a child in care, but now had an extremely supportive wife who was standing by him She said: It appears that Mr Jones still cannot grasp why these events were allowed to take place. He accepted his guilt immediately.
