Leslie Condliffe

Clevedon Sexual Abuser

November 2009 Clevedon rapist jailed for sex attacks on girls A Clevedon rapist who carried out a string of sex attacks on two young girls has been jailed for five years. Leslie Condliffe attacked a 12-year-old girl three times in front of her 13-year-old friend. The 55-year-old sex offender, of Churchill Avenue, Clevedon, also molested the 13-year-old and took an indecent photograph of her. He confessed what he had done to the landlady of a Clevedon pub who was also a police community officer and the offences were reported to police. Condliffe was arrested and later pleaded guilty to three charges of raping a child under 13, one charge of sexual activity with a 13-year-old child and one charge of taking an indecent image of a 13-year-old child. He was jailed for five years at Bristol Crown Court and will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely. He was also handed a disqualification order to prevent him from ever working with children and was prohibited under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order from associating with or befriending any girl he does not believe is 16 or over or being in the presence of such a girl unless accompanied by an adult who knows of the order. Paul Light, defending, said his client realised the error of his ways almost immediately and reported what he had done. “He realises that not only has he blighted his own life, but the effect on other people has been catastrophic. “It was at a time when he was going through a depression when he was lonely and it went horribly wrong. “He wants to seek treatment as soon as he is in custody,” said Mr Light. Jailing Condliffe, Judge Michael Longman said: “As you have correctly suggested, the effect on these girls will be astronomical, profound and long lasting. “It was an aggravating factor that this behaviour took place in the presence of both girls together.”
