LESLEYANN URE FROM HAMILTON BANNED FOR LIFE OVER CRUEL TREATMENT OF PUPPY BILLY IN NEILSANDLAND STREET
Lesleyann Ure, a resident of Neilsland Street in the Fairhill area of Hamilton, has been officially condemned for her neglectful treatment of her young Staffordshire bull terrier, Billy. Born around 1985, Ure’s failure to seek proper veterinary care for her nine-month-old dog has led to severe consequences, including a lifetime ban from owning animals and a community service order.Ure’s neglect was evident when Billy began to suffer from a serious skin condition. Despite the obvious distress and pain the puppy was experiencing, she did not take any action to have him examined or treated by a veterinarian. This neglect allowed Billy’s condition to worsen significantly, causing him immense suffering. It was only when the situation became critical that veterinary intervention was sought, but by then, Billy’s health had deteriorated to a point where humane euthanasia was deemed necessary to prevent further pain.
The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA) highlighted the severity of the case. Inspector Gillian Dick expressed her concern, stating, “Billy was in a horrendous condition as he had a severe skin complaint which caused him a great deal of pain and suffering.” She further explained, “Sadly, despite receiving treatment for the condition, Billy’s health did not improve and he had to be put to sleep to end his suffering.”
In court, Ure admitted her failure to provide the necessary medical attention for her dog. As a result, she was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and was handed a lifetime ban on keeping animals, a measure intended to prevent her from causing further harm to any future pets. The case has drawn attention to the importance of responsible pet ownership and the devastating consequences of neglect.
Gillian Dick emphasized the importance of timely veterinary care, noting, “If veterinary treatment had been sought when Billy’s skin condition had appeared, the pain and discomfort he suffered could have been avoided.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the responsibilities that come with caring for animals and the legal repercussions of neglecting those duties.
